The Department of Land Administration and Surveying was established in 2017 G.C at Wollega University, Gimbi Campus, under the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences, located in West Wollega, Ethiopia. The department offers a four-year B.Sc. program in Land Administration and Surveying for regular students.
The department was established with the objective of producing well-trained professionals capable of serving their communities with expertise in areas such as cadastral surveying, land law, real estate valuation and registration, dispute resolution, computer mapping, land use planning, and land development. Additionally, it aims to strengthen the qualifications and capacity of personnel working in land use and environmental protection authorities, municipalities, advisory and counseling offices, and other institutions engaged in land-related activities.
The department is dedicated to delivering high-quality education, conducting impactful research, and providing community services that promote sustainable land use and good governance. The program is structured into five specialized tracks: Basic, Geomatic, Economics, Law, and Land Administration, providing students with a comprehensive education that integrates technical, legal, economic, and managerial aspects of land administration.The first batch of students, consisting of 22 graduates, completed the BSc program in Land Administration and Surveying in 2012 E.C. Between 2012 and 2017 E.C., a total of 137 students graduated from the department with a BSc in Land Administration and Surveying.The Department of Land Administration and Surveying had ten (10) staff members and 38 students in the 2018 E.C. academic year.
